The Experience 2008

. .

Where were you on the 5th of December 2008?

Lagos, December 5th 2008: The event Africa had been waiting for…The Experience 2008 finally came… and what a night it was!

Convened and hosted by Pastor Paul Adefarasin, The Experience is an Interdenominational Gospel concert that features some of the best-known musical talents of our time. The Event, which debuted in December 2006 with over 70,000 persons in attendance rapidly gained momentum at its second outing with a quantum leap in attendance of well over 250,000 people! With this year’s unprecedented crowd estimated at 350,000, The Experience has now become known as the largest musical concert in Africa.

Uniquely the Event runs through the night starting at 7.00pm and running till 6am the following morning a colossal 11 hrs of uninterrupted prayer and live music!

At its inception, the Experience was simply an opportunity for Nigerians to put aside tribe, tongue, class, and creed; come together and lift one voice and worship God. Amazingly the event than has become much more than the organizers could ever have imagined. In three years it has become a global phenomenon, the worlds largest gospel music concert and the largest musical event in Africa. The Experience is seen as a bridge of reconciliation and a beacon of light and hope to the much afflicted and often maligned continent of Africa. The Experience showcases the immense potential of the great continent, its people and what can be achieved when in spite of adversity; diversity joins hands to work together for the common good.

This years event featured Award winning recording artists; Kirk Franklin, Donnie McClurkin, Don Moen, Fred Hammond, Kurt Carr, Chevelle Franklyn from Jamaica, Gospel duo Mary Mary, United Kingdom based Recording artist and Radio presenter, Muyiwa Olarewju and Nigerian based ‘Dekunle Fuji and Midnight Crew.

Attended by Federal and State dignitaries, Captains of Industry and your regular man or woman next door, The Experience was truly representative of a cross section of Nigeria’s eclectic community.

You never quite know what is going to happen when God decides to visit you. If the truth were to be told, the last thing anyone wanted in the early hours of Saturday morning was rain…but rain it did and how it rained!! You would think this was the end of the Experience 2008 but no! For most people this was just the beginning of their unique encounter with God! The amazing spectacle of over 300,000 people defying a torrential rainstorm to lift up unfettered and heartfelt worship is certainly a once in a lifetime experience. To see eminent Gospel ministers Donnie McClurkin, Don Moen, Pastor Paul Adefarasin, Israel Houghton, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, Mary Mary and Kurt Carr standing shoulder to shoulder in spite of the downpour to minister to an uncompromising crowd who insisted on praising God come rain or shine was truly a sight to behold. Testimonies abound as to what God did in the lives of people that epic night. There are not enough words to describe it…you needed to have been there!
